Day 7 – Denver

Coors Brewery - Golden, CO
We changed our plans for today a little to fit in the Coors Brewery Tour we missed on Tuesday.  Once again we found there was a long line but this time we had enough time to wait. The line was half as long but we still waited 30 minutes for our bus. It is truly amazing to see how long people are willing to wait to get $2 worth of beer. As far as the tour, it was just okay. I thought the Budweiser tour in St. Louis was better and that plant seems much more advanced in the technology they use at Coors. At least everything seemed to be much computer controlled. I do have to say that even with older technology, the Coors we tasted was excellent, so technology isn’t everything.

Mile High Stadium, in the rain
The weather forecast was iffy so we dropped the idea of seeing the Rockies play an afternoon game. That turned out to be the right call as a severe storm rolled through around noon and it was still raining around two when we passed by Coors Field on our way out of town. The rain dampened some of our plans but the biggest disappointment was that we had wanted to tour the US Mint but found out that you needed advance reservations and weren’t able to get in. And of course we got soaked to find this out. I have got to learn to read the fine print when I plan things. As we were leaving town, the sky behind us was absolutely black and the sky in front over the mountains was totally sunny. Really usual sight to us but those thunderheads are pretty common around here.

Colorado State Capitol, in the rain
By the way, we saw our fourth state capitol building on the trip. Again, nothing we planned but it just ended up that way.
